When Jess Jackson produced his first Chardonnay in 1982, his goal was simply to create a wine that people of all levels of expertise could enjoy. Kendall-Jackson, the family-owned and operated winery, has become one of the most trusted and celebrated wineries in the world over the past three decades. The winery's Vintner's Reserve Chardonnay has been the number one selling Chardonnay in the United States for more than 25 years.
One aspect that distinguishes Kendall-Jackson's wines is their vineyard sourcing. The majority of the fruit used in Kendall-Jackson wines is grown on the 12,000 acres of estate vineyards owned by the Jackson family. Over the past three decades, the Jackson family has acquired vineyard land situated in the cool coastal mountains, hillsides, ridges, and benches of California's Santa Barbara, Sonoma, Napa, Monterey, Mendocino, and Lake Counties. This ensures that the grapes are grown with specific care and low-yielding farming techniques to produce the highest quality fruit. All of Kendall-Jackson's estate vineyards are certified sustainable by the CCSW (Certified California Sustainable Winegrowing) and SIP (Sustainability in Practice) programs.
Each year, under the direction of winemaster Randy Ullom and winemaker Mark Theis, Kendall-Jackson conducts the largest barrel fermentation of Chardonnay in the world. This labor-intensive process is used by all boutique wineries to create more texture and complexity in the wine. To guarantee a consistent source of high-quality oak for their barrels, the winery is in partnership with a stave mill in France and a cooperage in the United States.
Kendall-Jackson's wines, from the Vintner's Reserve collection to the single-vineyard and other luxury class bottlings, offer fruit-driven aromatics, strong varietal characteristics, remarkable balance, and delicious flavors. The Kendall-Jackson Chardonnay, produced in California, features a blend of 94% Lake County, 4% Mendocino County, and 2% Sonoma County grapes. This medium-bodied, crisp, and aromatic white wine showcases luscious honeysuckle, ripe pear, and fresh lemongrass, with hints of fresh tropical grapefruit and fig complementing the subtle minerality. This wine pairs well with a variety of dishes, including fish tacos, sushi, salsa verde chicken, and chevre or goat cheese.
Kendall-Jackson's winemaking process is crafted in the boutique winery style, with small individual lots throughout the winemaking process to ensure flavor distinction. This attention to detail and commitment to quality have made Kendall-Jackson one of the most trusted and celebrated wineries in the world.
